| Transcript: Community-building
is the most powerful thing for me about digital means. I think having an
assignment that requires collaborative work really helps the students. If they
start online exchanging bits of texts, they wind up offline meeting and talking
in rooms, eating pizza, and arguing with each other ferociously. They share the
task of drafting answers to questions and they form these small community groups
inside the class that then continue to function through the whole of the term.
It totally changes the dynamics of a big lecture class because you suddenly have
groups of as many as 20 who feel like they know each other. They've shared the
experience of really trying to hash out the material. |
