FATHOM Remove

Oriental Institute, University of Chicago, OIM 10729   This sculpture represents a priest of Hathor named Basa, seated with his cloak drawn over his knees. The surface is covered with a record of the names and titles of 26 generations of Basa's paternal family. The lengthy inscription contains valuable information about how the priesthood was passed on in ancient Egypt through the generations. On the front of the statue, Basa is shown adoring the gods Osiris and Isis.
